Our Hatching Egg Order Policy
All hatching eggs are pre-orders. Minimum order of 6 eggs. When ordering hatching eggs, please factor in the number of eggs that may not develop nor hatch; please be also mindful of the ratio of males vs. females you might get. Due to factors beyond our control (hatching techniques, humidity, weather, USPS handling) we cannot be held responsible for eggs that don't develop or poor hatch rates. There are no refunds nor replacement for eggs that don't hatch. Please note that just because an egg does not develop, it does not mean it is infertile. There is only one way to know if an egg is fertile and unfortunately, that means breaking the egg open to look for the white spot, which is the germinal disk. (looks like a donut!!) You will see a yellow hole in the center and there would indicate that the egg is fertile. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE HATCH RATES OUTSIDE OUR FARM. Avoid counting your chicks before they hatch!! We do not offer eggs from any breed that we have not successfully hatched ourselves. We scrutinize the eggs we sell. We only sell and send the freshest eggs collected within a max of 72 hour collection, kept under appropriate temperature and turned frequently throughout the day. The eggs we pack for you will be free of any deformities and defects.
Cancellation/Return Policy
If life happens and you decide to cancel an order that has not yet been filled, 50% of your payment is refundable and the other 50% will be issued as a store credit for a future purchase with us. We do not issue full refunds. If you need to cancel your order, please email us with your order number and cancellation reason. In the event we are unable to fill an order, we reserve the right to cancel it, and a full refund will be issued.
About our Silkies
We are so proud of our Silkies. We have acquired our breeding stock from two master exhibitors and professional Silkie breeders in the State of Florida. We currently have two pens. One with solid whites, which is a standard APA recognized color. The other one is my red pen, which is not an APA recognized color. Red is a project color in Silkies. What I love about them and have learned from my own experience working with this color is that I can hatch other colors too, such as NSV (non-standard variety) and Patridge. NSV color Silkies can be shown and entered in shows as such.
Silkies are the divas of the chicken world. They originate from China. There is a great deal of information about the Silkie in ancient Chinese writings—eastern cultures have always believed the Silkie to have medicinal powers beyond any other chicken breed. That belief is justified: recent studies have discovered that the Silkie produces more carnosine, an important anti-oxidant, than other poultry. It is for this reason that Silkies are still used widely today in Chinese medicines. The first western recording of a Silkie sighting was by Marco Polo, 1928. He marveled about seeing a bird with black skin and “hair like a cat” on his travels to China. It’s thought that he took some Silkies with him and was the first person to introduce them to the western world. In the early 1900s, Silkies were exploited in travelling circuses and side-shows as “freaks’, described as “Chickens with fur instead of feathers.”
Silkies are ornamental chickens and should not be kept with large fowl breeds as they could become object of harassment by other breeds.
Female Silkies make great mothers. They love to sit on eggs and hatch them. They make great mothers as well. Male Silkies are charming and full of sassiness. They will do anything to protect their females. It is actually cute to watch how they court and protect. Male Silkies make excellent pets.
Silkie chickens are for you if :
You're just starting out with chickens and you're prepared to take good care that they don't get cold or wet.
You want a friendly first chicken for your children or a companion for yourself.
You have a fairly small area, or you can't let your girls free range at all and need to keep them in a coop.
You're thinking of keeping a chicken (or two) in an apartment.
You want a bird who will be a "mother hen" to lots of little chickens - no matter whose they are!
You shouldn't buy Silkies if :
You live somewhere cold, wet and muddy.
You want a hen who will lay eggs but not go broody over them (although there are ways to stop a hen who's 'gone broody').
You're thinking of keeping chickens for meat.
Silkies lay about 160-180 eggs per year. Their eggs are off white and small.
