Dark Cornish Fertile Hatching eggs

from $29.00

Please read if interested in raising this amazing heritage breed for their know excellent meat and eggs production!

From my own experience working with these birds since 2022, I have observed them closely. These are excellent foragers, they are very alert. The meat is exceptional (per my customers I sold their whole dressed chickens to). Eggs are super fertile, so we have been hatching almost 100% of them. I always have chicks in stock and eggs to set in the incubator. The hens are known to lay 160-180 brown eggs a year, that would be laying for 6 months. This is their first laying season so I will be updating this description in the Fall of 2023. Hens are laying prolifically.

Temperament: These are not lap chickens. They don’t care for being held or petted. They want to run the field, do their thing and return to their coop safely at dusk. Ours live in confinement as we breed them; however, we do let them out to stroll once and while. It makes them happy. The roosters are know for being protective of their hens, but no flogging.

Care: These birds are easy to maintain. They are excellent foragers and super alert which makes them safer from predators. They don’t require a lot of space; 2-3 feet per bird is ideal. We keep We keep 5 hens and a rooster in a 10x!0 dry coop and they do really well.

Health: I find this variety of the Cornish to be extremely hardy both in cold and hot summer months. Birds are vigorous and lively. You can breed these and they breed true. Their life expectancy is just as of that any other chicken: 5-8 years.

APA status: Recognized. Fit for exhibition

Broodiness: Cornish hens are know for being sitters and being good moms; however I have not observed that, perhaps because we collect their eggs daily, so there is no chance for broodiness, but this is what is known about this breed.

Appearance and size: The Cornish chicken is a medium-sized bird with a stocky build and broad chest. They have short legs and small heads. The average size of a Cornish chicken is about 4 lbs. However, the roosters can weigh up to 8 pounds, and the hens can weigh 6 pounds. This makes them a good choice for people who want a bird that can provide plenty of meat.

Processing time: Please note these are not Cornish Crosses! This is a heritage breed and grows out at a much slower pace. Per experience, you can process a heritage Cornish anytime between 8 -15 weeks or even older. My Asian customers love a grown rooster. I have gotten very good feedback from them on the taste and texture of the bird.

The history of the Cornish is interesting. They originated in Cornwall, England from Red Aseels, Black Breasted Red Old English and Malays. They were bred for wide body confirmation and high volume of breast meat. Dark Cornish chicks are varying shades of brown with two light streaks down the back. They are so pretty and hardy! They have pea combs and clean, yellow legs and feet. The primary plumage color of adult males is greenish black, with some feathers having red centers. The adult females have a redder plumage pattern than the males with many of the feathers being red mahogany with narrow, greenish black lacing. While Cornish are a slow growing breed and can produce large amount of breast meat, they should not be expected to grow at the same rate as Cornish Crosses and are not to be confused with them.

Our Hatching Egg Order Policy

All hatching eggs are pre-orders. Minimum order of 6 eggs. When ordering hatching eggs, please factor in the number of eggs that may not develop nor hatch; please be also mindful of the ratio of males vs. females you might get. Due to factors beyond our control (hatching techniques, humidity, weather, USPS handling) we cannot be held responsible for eggs that don't develop or poor hatch rates. There are no refunds nor replacement for eggs that don't hatch. Please note that just because an egg does not develop, it does not mean it is infertile. There is only one way to know if an egg is fertile and unfortunately, that means breaking the egg open to look for the white spot, which is the germinal disk. (looks like a donut!!) You will see a yellow hole in the center and there would indicate that the egg is fertile. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE HATCH RATES OUTSIDE OUR FARM. Avoid counting your chicks before they hatch!! We do not offer eggs from any breed that we have not successfully hatched ourselves. We scrutinize the eggs we sell. We only sell and send the freshest eggs collected within a max of 72 hour collection, kept under appropriate temperature and turned frequently throughout the day. The eggs we pack for you will be free of any deformities and defects.

Cancellation/Return Policy

If life happens and you decide to cancel an order that has not yet been filled, 50% of your payment is refundable and the other 50% will be issued as a store credit for a future purchase with us. We do not issue full refunds. If you need to cancel your order, please email us with your order number and cancellation reason. In the event we are unable to fill an order, we reserve the right to cancel it, and a full refund will be issued.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • First and foremost, there are no refunds, no returns, and no replacements on any hatching egg orders, FOR ANY REASON, whatsoever.

  • You may have 0% -100% hatch rate from the eggs you receive from me.

  • In addition to the above, you understand that, in general, shipped eggs may not develop due to factors outside my control. You should candle the eggs upon arrival to inspect the air sac cells. It is recommended that shipped eggs rest for 12 hours to allow shook up air cells a chance to settle and possibly reattach. If air cells become damaged, embryo development is doomed.

  • You understand that eggs may not develop due to factors outside my control. You should candle the eggs upon arrival to inspect the air sac cells. It is recommended that shipped eggs rest for 12 hours to allow shook up air cells a chance to settle and possibly reattach.

  • Please take the time to educate yourself about fertile chicken eggs. Just because the embryo fails to develop, it does not mean the egg was not fertile. Eggs must be kept under the right condition in order to fertilize (It is always a good idea to check your incubator for cold spots periodically).

  • The only way to check for fertility is to crack one of the eggs to locate the bullseye (the blastocyst). That is the only way! Please do your research before making false claims that cannot be proven.

  • You should ALWAYS elect to pick up your eggs from the post office versus having them shipped to your door. Clients who follow this best practice are far more successful than those who have their package sent straight home.

  • If you can't pick up your eggs from the post office, consider sourcing them locally.

  • If you want your package held for pick up, please leave your phone number on the "note to seller" during checkout and it will be done for you. If you forget, you can always send me a message via (352)467-2600. I will no longer reach out to anyone for the phone number. If you have not asked me to hold for pick up, your package will be sent straight to your address; however, per the Department of Agriculture all shipments of hatching eggs and live animals must be accompanied by the buyer's phone number. We are NPIP and follow NPIP guidelines. We file and submit a VS 9-3 form for all of our shipped orders, even if within the State of Florida.

  • I am wife, mom, teacher, and farmer. I do not have time to entertain any drama over eggs that don't develop or don't hatch. I am not a keyboard warrior.

  •  When you purchase eggs through the mail you understand there are risks involved and when you complete your purchase, you have accepted these terms and conditions.

  • Handling time can be anywhere between 3 - 10 business days. Sometimes, it can take longer, depending on the number of orders between eBay, local, and the farm website. I strive to ship every order as soon as possible, but keep in mind we work with animals. Animals are unpredictable. We work with small flocks. Eggs are shipped fresh. Your oldest egg won't be older than 72 hours prior to shipping.

  • Your eggs will arrive safely and unbroken; free of any deformities. Only the best eggs are chosen for your incubator. Each egg is carefully inspected for cracks and detached air cells prior to packaging. Every package sent is the best it can possibly be. The eggs I sent to you are packaged with love and care.

  • If you receive broken eggs (from usps mishandling), please file a claim with usps. Your package is insured for $100. Pictures are a MUST.

  • Please understand that I do not return messages about hatch rate. There is nothing I can or will do to remediate the issue. I can't refund you for service that has been rendered. I won’t reship, unless paid for a full set, or authorize a return.

  • I can't guarantee hatch rate outside my farm for numerous factors: the environment, the machine, the practice, detached air sacs during transit, just to name a few. Just place me on your "no buy again list" and move on.

  • Please note we cannot predict when our hens want to take a break. Just like us, they have good days and bad days as well. If I cannot fill your order due to broodiness, molt, heat, or any other factor that affects laying, I will contact you and cancel your order, issuing a full refund.

  • If you can’t accept these terms and conditions please find another breeder.
